A New Seat Design To Make Long Trips Easier

Long drives can be uncomfortable, especially in hot summer weather. Sitting for long periods of time can wear on the body, particularly the posterior. That’s the reason the Ford Global Seating and Comfort Team have been working to redesign the way seats work in the 2020 Ford Explorer.

Mike Kolich holds a Ph.D. in industrial and manufacturing systems engineering with an emphasis on seat comfort. He’s worked with the Ford team to make road trips easier on every part of the body.

“Road trips can be largely defined by how comfortable people are – and when you get…

Recycling For Better Vehicle Design

The Ford Motor Company is consistently working to reduce its carbon footprint and plastic waste. It goes beyond just Ford’s own plastic use; Ford is now making strides in utilizing plastic water bottles that are recycled everywhere. Those bottles contribute to some of the most powerful vehicles on the road: Ford SUVs and F-Series trucks.

In order to reduce weight and improve aerodynamics, Ford utilizes recycled plastics to help build the underbody shields for vehicles. “The underbody shield is a large part, and for a part that big, if we use solid plastic, it would likely weigh three times…
