Ford’s Newest Bucking Member to the Mustang Family is the All-Electric Mustang Mach-E

The Mustang debuted in 1964 and quickly became a fierce nameplate for the brand. The Ford Mustang grew to become an American culture icon representing freedom, power, and a resilient attitude. In Ford’s desire to be at the forefront in pioneering America’s future, they’ve added a new member to the Mustang family. Designed to meet the customer's every need and want, they released an all-electric SUV, the Mustang Mach-E.

“At the first-ever Detroit auto show, Henry Ford said he was working on something that would strike like forked lightning,” said Bill Ford, executive chairman, Ford Motor Company. “That was the Model T. Today, the Ford Motor Company is proud to unveil a car that strikes like forked lightning all over again. The all-new, all-electric Mustang Mach-E. It’s fast. It’s fun. It’s freedom. For a new generation of Mustang owners.”

The Mustang Mach-E is designed to be versatile and can be customized to every customer’s personal needs. The Mustang Mach-E is available in rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive options, two performance models, and will include the customer’s choice of either a standard battery or an extended-range battery.

Customers can decide if they want their Mustang Mach-E to be more efficient or offer higher performance. Those who choose rear-wheel drive paired with the extended-range battery will see 300 miles to a full battery charge. If performance is what you desire, then all-wheel drive is the way to go. The all-wheel drive system that will be available with the release of the Mustang Mach-E will serve as the first production vehicle to be tuned by the Ford Performance team. Tried and tested in the elements, it will not only offer the highest traction on tough and slippery terrain, but will also produce 332 horsepower and 417 lb.-ft. of torque.

For those looking for a little more power, the two performance models will be worth exploring. The Ford Mustang Mach-E GT and the Ford Mustang Mach-E GT Performance Edition will both produce 459 horsepower and 612 lb.-ft. of torque. The Mustang Mach-E GT is capable of hitting 0 to 60 in under 4 seconds, while the Mustang Mach-E GT Performance Edition makes 0 to 60 in the mid 3 second range, competing with that of the Porsche 911 GTS.

“The Mustang Mach-E wholeheartedly rejects the notion that electric vehicles are only good at reducing gas consumption,” said Hau Thai-Tang, Ford’s chief product development and purchasing officer. “People want a car that’s thrilling to drive, that looks gorgeous and that can easily adapt to their lifestyle – and the Mustang Mach-E delivers all of this in unmatched style.”

Driving nowadays is a lot more than going fast; it’s also about featuring the latest and greatest technology. Ford is debuting two new pieces of technology with the Mustang Mach-E: Phone As Key technology and the next generation of SYNC. With Phone As Key technology, Ford drivers will be able to unlock and start their vehicles without using a physical key or key fob. Without taking their smartphone out of their pocket, their device will communicate via Bluetooth with the vehicle to perform these actions, making driving simpler than ever. With the next generation of SYNC, drivers will enjoy predictive technology. After learning the drivers typical behaviors, SYNC will now prompt the driver to do actions they already regularly carry out, such as calling home after work.

Lets not forget this Mustang is also an SUV, providing ample storage space. The Mustang Mach-E not only offers a maximum cargo space of 59.6 cubic feet, but also offers a drainable front-trunk with 4.8 cubic feet of space. Ford designed this space to be multi-functional with the drainable plug, so customers can use this to fill with ice and keep drinks cold on road trips or pre-game tailgating events, or they can use it to fit smaller items such as a carry-on luggage bag.

The Mustang Mach-E is expected to be available Spring 2021 for consumers to buy. Eager to claim your new Mustang? Ford is now accepting reservations on their website.
