Smart Seat Belt Technology In The Ranger Keeps Passengers Safe

The 2019 Ford Ranger is known for its ability to rock out and power through even the roughest terrain in pursuit of adventure. There’s more to it than that though.

Even when you’re out on the most challenging conditions and pushing the limits on what people expect a truck to be able to handle, the 2019 Ranger is still working to keep everyone safe. Using a specialized technology called Belt Monitor, the Ranger can detect if someone in the second row of seats unbuckles their seatbelt. If the system detects this, it alerts the driver and tells them which passenger is unbuckled.

“Whether you’re on the freeway or the trail, we want to make sure everyone who puts a seat belt on keeps it on,” said Paul Kula, Ford Electrical Systems Engineer. “We hope that making Belt Monitor a standard feature in every Ford Ranger will provide extra peace of mind for the driver.”

This monitoring continues beyond the beginning of the drive, because having a seatbelt on is always a good idea. By consistently reminding passengers and drivers of the importance of wearing a seatbelt in all driving situations, Ford hopes to encourage safer habits overall.

The Belt Monitor in the Ranger is the first reminder of its kind in Ford’s truck lineup. Ford looks to implement this monitor as a standard feature across the North American fleet in the coming years.
