Ford Unleashes Most Powerful Drag Racing Mustang In History

Ford Performance recently unveiled the 50th Anniversary Mustang Cobra Jet at the Woodward Dream Cruise, revealing to the world the fastest drag racing Mustang ever created, with the vehicle paying homage to the first Mustang Cobra Jet that ruled drag strips in 1968.

The 50th Anniversary Mustang Cobra Jet is capable of surpassing 150 mph and finishing quarter-mile runs in the mid-eight-second range, making it the most fearsome drag racing Mustang Ford has ever produced.

The 2018 Mustang Cobra Jet was designed by Ford Performance engineers to dominate drag strips with impressive speed and power. The Cobra Jet is powered by a 5.2-liter V8 engine equipped with a 3.0-liter Whipple supercharger to give the Mustang unparalleled power.

It’s also outfitted with a multitude of other race-ready components including a 9-inch solid rear axle, two-way coil-over shocks with adjustable ride height, a low-drag disc brake system, an NHRA-certified safety roll cage and FIA-certified seats.

It’s available in two colors: Race Red and Oxford White. It can also come with 50th Anniversary graphics and badges if customers choose.

Eric Cin, the global director of Ford Performance Parts, lauded the Ford Performance Parts team for their skill and experience in creating high-performance vehicles.

“From the very first Mustang Cobra Jets dominating the 1968 NHRA Winternationals to our modern-day racers, the Ford Performance Parts team continues to build on Cobra Jet’s success at the track over five decades,” Cin said. “This has inspired generations of Mustang fans to create their own performance machines for the street.”

The Ford Mustang Cobra Jet first debuted on drag strips at the NHRA Super Stock Winternationals in 1968. The 50th Anniversary Ford Mustang Cobra Jet is available for purchase now, with production limited to 68 vehicles in honor of its 1968 debut.
